Astra f battery removal

Discussion in 'Astra' started by Merlins laptop ©, Oct 1, 2006.

  1. Hi, trying to remove the battery earth from the above, book says, "turn
ignition on, then off, remove connection within 15 seconds to prevent alarm"
Problem is it doesn't, alarm sounds immediately, no 15 sec delay, am I
missing something or is the system faulty.

    TIA Chris

could be the siren unit has faulty/low battery.
    what year is the motor.

my only other usual trick is to disconnect the siren unit with the ignition
    on.

    then do the work
then reconnect the siren unit with the ignition on.

Thanks for that, it's a 98 model, with no other symptoms of low batt, ie
random soundings etc, its the 1.7 DT model & the sounder is in the engine
bay rather than the wing panel so should be easier to dis.

Why do you need to remove the earth? I'm thinking that if you are replacing
the battery then use jump leads or something just to keep power to the
    electronics.

na it don't if it thinks its been disconnected then it goes till the batpack
    flattens.
should be ok if the alarms is off and the ignition is on.
thats the way we always did em anyhow.
