My Father has a 1.8 Astra CDX year 2000 that keeps him and his neighbours up
at night by randomly letting loose with the alarm.
Is there any way of either disconnecting the sounder or setting the
    immobiliser without setting the alarm?

    Any help greatly appreciated

Alarm problems seem to crop up a lot here. makes me wonder about the quality
    of OE alarms.
Anyhow, open rear door and lock drivers door by hand, then close door. that
locks the car without setting the alarm. dont know if it sets the
immobiliser though. Be carefull you dont lock the keys in the car tho...

BTW, dont just unplug the sounder. your neighbours really will not thank
    you.

Usually the power sounder that is the problem - if you start hearing four
beeps every now and again you know it is a power sounder problem - I think
new one is about £48 and max of an hours labour to fit - it needs to be
programmed so you will need security code for the car.

    common problem
try hitting the 'i'm leaving my dog in the car' key
    see if that fixes it.
if not it will be the sounder module internal batteries (takes about 4 yrs
    to develope)

if you are going to disconnect the sounder.
turn the ignition on (one back from starting the car) leave it on
then disconnect it at the multiplug on the top

exchange modules are not too expensive though i might crack mine apart this
    year and do it myself.

when you do put it back make sure the ignition is on again.

Thankyou to everyone for their helpful suggestions, it is much appreciated
and, if successful in sorting the problem will be appreciated by many others
    also!!
