astra 14i idel problem

    in stead of the car idling at about 10,000 revs it keeps jumping between
    15,000 to 20,000... any suggestions welcome...Thanks

    Sorry, but I just couldn't resist do that.

    Anyway, to answer the question, it's the computerised
    engine management that causing the symptom.

    I have a 1.7Dti diesel and had the same thing happen to me.

    ( very occaisonally, mainly having just left a motorway. )

    Usually I just blip the throttle and it settles down,
    but yes it was a little unnerving at first.
