    Hi,

I have an Astra SRi (1999) which has developed an alarm problem.

Is there a way of locking the car without activiating the alarm system as
    well?

    Thanks

if its a 4 door, open the osr door, press the button to lock the drivers
door, then close the rear door.

Be very careful you dont lock your keys in though.

    Mike,

the problem seems very specific. Any ideas what might be causing the alarm
    to go off.

During the day, when I activate the central locking/alarm, it will go off in
40 mins. Reset and in 40 mins it will go off again. However during late
evening I can set the alarm and it will not go off till about 8 am.

    Thanks again.

    Is it an estate?
Is it just the siren going off or the indicators flashing as well?

Estate have a problem with rear side glass alarm wires getting damaged or
the plugs coming off the glass - you need to check this.
