Air con / ECU light

I have 2 problems with an Omega:

Firstly, the Engine Control indicator on the dash will light up roughly
every couple of weeks. Stopping the car and switching off the engine, then
restarting will allow me to continue the journey without it coming back.
The manual just advises me to contact a dealership, but is there anything I
    can check myself?

Secondly, the air con has become noticably less efficient recently (even
taking into account the hot weather!). It still works, but struggles to keep
    the inside cool.
Would the first thing to try be re-gassing the system. If that's not it, any
    other areas to concentrate on?

    Cheers,
    Paul

Re-gassing alone is not usually sensible. The refrigerant must have
leaked out. A reputable plase will leak test or at least add a dye to
find the site of the leak. Be prepared for a nasty shock as some a/c
repairs (i.e. pump) can be a little damaging to the wallet.

The ECU - really could be anything. Might be a quick software fix at a
dealer or could need a replacement ECU. This kinds of things can go on for
a long time before they actually cause a breakdown.

Air con - look up 'car air conditioning' in www.yell.com for your area.
    Plenty of specialists around nowadays.

A dealer can check it on Tech2 to see what is causing the light to come on
and may be able to cure it on the spot. It might be connected to the air con
    problem as well.

Tech2 cost will be around £30 and needs to be done at a main dealer or
    someone with decent equipment.

Other people can do the aircon but ask the dealer for a quote at the same
    time.

Depending on the age and mileage of the car Vauxhall may be willing to
contribute to both repairs so consider going to the Vauxhall dealer if the
    car is newish.

  5. Depending on the year, flash codes are available. If yours is a 16-pin diag
    socket, use the following link:
    http://forums.delphiforums.com/cartune/messages?msg=28.1 The 10-pin socket
also allows flash codes; a detailed procedure will be available from the
same site in a couple of days.
