    Hi all,

Is there much difference between the 2.5 V6 and the 2.6, which is the
best to go for ??. I assume the 2.6 replaced the older 2.5.

I also heard the brakes are pretty poor on the Vectra or is that
    rubbish.

I just recently bought a 2001 2.5 V6 CD estate. I was told by the salesman
that parts are more readily available for the 2.5 than the 2.6.
The large engined Vectra's are thirsty and not as popular as the 1.8l or
2.0l so you can pick them up a bit cheaper. I was able to buy mine and get
it converted to run on LPG for the same money as a 1.8l CD.

I really don't notice any difference between it, although I'm told there is
a 5-10% loss in power, but when faced with 35p/litre for LPG or 95p/litre
for petrol I know which I prefer.

  5. Hi Dave,

I have a 2000 Vectra GSi, which has the 2.5 V6. My car works hard for its
living, and with 180k genuine miles on it, it returns about 36mpg on the
motorway and about 28 to 30 around town, but I could easily get these
figures up with less pressure on my right foot!

I was led to believe that the 2.6 replaced the 2.5 in order to lower
emissions (and hence company car tax) and increase mpg. From some of the
literature that I have from Vauxhall, the 2.6 lost some bhp to the 2.5, with
the 2.5 being rated at 195bhp (GSi only - 170bhp on SRI, CDX etc), and the
2.6 being rated between 165bhp and 175bhp, depending on model.

If it's been looked after, a Vectra B should give you years of driving
pleasure. My advice though is to find a decent garage for servicing, and
avoid Vauxhall for servicing. My Vectra never felt right coming back from
various Vauxhall dealers all over the country, not just the same one around
    the corner.

    Hope that helps!!

    David.
