    Hi Guys

I am seriously thinking about buying a 2.2 Omega CDX on a 02 plate.

Is there anything I need to keep an eye out for when test driving/looking it
    over?

It currently has 30,000 on the clock.

    Thanks in advance

Although I've never owned one, I believe the Vectra C 2.2 ( presumably
the same engine?) got itself a reputation in ite early days( i.e. 02
plate) for snapping cam chains , not helped by 20,000 mile oil change
intervals and people using cheapo oil. Presumably this also applies to
the Omega. The oil flow to the chain was increased in late rmodels I
    believe.

On the facelift Omegas the only mnor annoyance I can think of is that
the seat heating pads are intergal with the seat, and so can't be
change deasily. So check the heated seats work.

Chain?? I thought all the modern 2.2s were belt driven but of course
    I could be wrong.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Unfortunalty I was too late, the car was sold before I could get back to the
    dealer.

The good news is that I take possesion of a Vectra Elegance next Thursday.

    Thanks again

The Vectra 2.2 (Z22SE) does indeed have a timing chain but the Omega
2.2 (Y22XE/Z22XE) has a belt. I don't know the life of the belts but on
the V6 they were 40k/4years then went to 80k/8y then down to 60k/6y and
finally back to 40k/4years due to early failures. If we go by that the
age is up for the belt and you must change the rollers and tensioner as
well since it's usually those that fail and take the belt. On this
engine the water pump is driven by the timing belt and has been known
to seize and take the belt and the rest of the engine with it so for
something like 25 quid you might as well have it replaced as well,
especially important if the coolant hasn't been changed, every two
years for the blue and I think 5 for the pink provided there isn't any
    blue mixed in with it.

Rust spots seem to be the lower rear of the doors and the top of the
door panels, just below the window rubbers.
