Funny that my Frontera is exactly the same...what I now do is not touch the
    accelerator when starting...Seems to work.

Either injector leak off pipes are perished or injector seals are leaking
    air would be my guess.
First job is cheap and easy and second one isn't.

My 2002 Astra 2.0 DTI starts perfectly every time normally. But for some
reason once a year when I have been on holiday and it has been stood for 2
weeks it will not start. I have to keep turning it over for what is
probably well over a minute and a half, this is done in bursts of 10
seconds or so not continuous. Is this a known issue? Does anybody know why
    this happens?

    thanks

the leak off pipes are a known fault for this. had the same with my 2001
DTi, replaced under warranty at the time.

by the way, fuel pumps are prone to going on this model at around 60k

    read " expensive ! "

I disagree. Vx parts fall into 4 different price grades. Cheap, dear,
    expensive & HOW MUCH!!!

I'm afraid pumps fall into the last catagory.

My exchange unit was £1300. The Dealer price was around £2.5k. (really!)

    included fitting though...... bargain.

Put it this way, if the rest of the car is a bit rough then you are going to
    save money by scrapping it!

    Gav,

Have you had the car looked at yet ? My guess it's the leak off pipes as
    this happened to mine also..........

Nope, its not concerned me too much to be honest. Like I say its fine day to
day, just once a year when I get the problem. It did it last year after I'd
been on holiday too, just thought I'd ask this year out of interest. It will
be going for an MOT soon so I'll ask them to check it whilst it is in for
    that.

    thanks for the input.)
