    Hi

I'm looking for an idea of the p0340 Fault code.. I have replaced the
Camshaft Sensor and Crankshaft Sensor, have also fitted a new timing
belt and had it all re-adjusted. Have had the car in the garage for
over 3 months and yet the mechanics are unable to help anymore.. I'm
being re-stricted to 4,500 revs and the management light is on
constantly.. Got a garage to plug in the computer to clear the code
after fitting everything and the error is stil P0340 - Incorrect Signal

So far the work has cost me £300 plus parts so almost around £400 and
yet the fault is still there. Any help would be great

Is the fault always there or does it come and go? Have they checked the
wiring from the ecu to the sensor?

Yes the light is constantly on. The Garage has checked the wiring so am
told but I would rather double check it myself, but I'm not 100% sure
where the ECU is on this car? I read somewhere that the R reg Vectra
requires a ECU Software Upgrade?? Rather than going to Vauxhall could I
    install another ECU second hand?

You can't just swap ecu's as they are coded to each car and you would need a
dealer to recode it. The ecu is fastened to the engine.

When you say that they are coded to each car, what on the car are they coded
to? I mean if you went to a scrappers and got one off a car what else would
you have to remove from the donor vehicle to make it work?

Immobilizer ecu and chips from the keys.

Would check it myself, but not 100% sure where it is!

You have more chance of flying on a banana to the moon if you cannot find
    the ECU

Found the ECU and traced all the wires, everything ok! Heard that the
ECU may need the software upgraded as its not been serviced by vauxhall
for years.. And I work for a car parts company and know that there was
a change on the S reg Vectra and when you purchase parts from Vauxhall
direct you normally need to get a software update if older than an S..
Is this correct about the software?

Got it booked in to Blackburn Motors who are putting the car on the
Tech2 and updating the software for £35.00 Is this good?

Don't think it will cure it but worth a go.
The valve timing is right isn't it - it will put the light on if it isn't.

    not too bad.
just nail them before you go and get them to do an error check for all codes
after you've run the car a bit.
